How does the lock connect to the internet?
The smart lock connects wirelessly to a gateway - This gateway is fixed to a wall in your building, within 15 meters of the lock. The gateway then connects to the internet via two methods, a mobile/4G connection, and ethernet (optional).
How long does the battery last?
The smart lock battery is designed to last for up to 2 years, depending on usage. We receive alerts when the battery is low, and we include a once-a-year battery change within your maintenance agreement.
Does this void my insurance?
Smart access is an access control product, similar to what you would see on a number of large commercial buildings (e.g. a fob reader on a wall, which operates a magnetic lock on the door). Therefore, this product is certified in the same way. We can send you a detailed hardware specification if your insurance company requires it.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Our smart locks store all users and their access rights locally, which means they can still be operated normally in the event of an internet or system outage. Whilst you can't add/remove users whilst the internet remains down, everything will sync up as soon as they come online again.
Is the mobile app reliable?
Our mobile app is designed to operate the lock locally, which means there is no reliance on the internet or other services on your phone. As long as you have battery, you can operate the lock!
For peace of mind, we can also issue backup fobs, or you can operate the locks remotely (via the internet) using our desktop client.
